Description

MINOAN PERIOD SMALL BRONZE LABRYS The labrys symbol was often found during the Bronze Age archaeological recovery at the Palace of Knossos on Crete. Of all the Minoan religious symbols the labrys was the holiest. It is known to have a strong religious significance, for specific use by Minoan priestesses as a ceremonial item, perhaps during the sacrifice of animals such as bulls. From around 2700 to 1450 BC, the Minoan civilization flourished as a seafaring and mercantile culture. The Minoan civilization developed and reached its Reyday on the Island of Crete. The center of this civilization was the palace of Knossos, which is one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the Greek history. All our bronze items, are cast in Greece, using the traditional 'lost wax' method. As nothing is mass-produced, there will inevitably be slight variations in patination and colouring. Each piece is, therefore, unique.(25-523-A) Details: Condition: New, Handmade in Greece Material: Pure Bronze Height: 19 cm(7.5 inches) Width : 11 cm(4.3 inches) Weight : 650 g
