A late 17th-century French edition of the letters of Roger de Rabutin, Comte de Bussy, the French memoirist, soldier, court figure, and cousin of Madame de Sévigné. This is the second part only, attractively bound in leather with raised bands, gilt spine decoration, marbled endpapers, and red-speckled page edges. The title page includes an engraved printer’s device. The spine label reads “Lettres de Bussy” with “Tom II” below. There is an early ownership inscription on the front blank, appearing to read “Bourgeois,” with an additional shelf or ownership mark above. Condition: Binding is worn but attractive, with heavy rubbing and surface wear to the boards, edge and corner wear, and wear to the spine ends and joints. Gilt decoration remains visible on the spine. Interior pages show age toning, light spotting, and occasional small marks, but the text remains legible.
