Small 18th-century French illustrated volume of Ovid’s Metamorphoses, translated by Pierre Du Ryer and printed at La Haye by Jean Neaulme in 1744. This is Tome III, containing the portion beginning with Livre Neuvieme and continuing through the close of the third volume. The book is illustrated throughout with numerous engraved mythological plates in the text, several of which are shown in the photos. More than 20 engraved plates. A pleasing copy for the imagery and early French Ovid tradition, with a manuscript ownership inscription on a preliminary leaf reading approximately "Du Luis Ballerand". Condition Worn antique condition. Full leather binding with heavy rubbing, scuffing, edge wear, corner wear, and losses to the leather. Boards and hinge areas show substantial age wear. Marbled endpapers and red page edges present. Interior shows toning, scattered soiling/staining, corner and edge wear, and occasional small creases or tears as photographed.
