A charming textile from the past!~ Made around the 1880s–1900, it has all the charm we love in these early boudoir pieces. The front is worked on deep black cotton velvet, and the flowers are created using hand-rolled silk ribbonwork rosettes ~ a beloved Victorian technique used on accessories, gowns, and small decorative home pieces of the period. The basket and sprays are hand-embroidered in soft greens and creams, so typical of the era’s parlour decor. The surrounding ruffle is made from lightweight dyed silk, beautifully time-worn with splits and shattering exactly as Victorian silks age. These fragile silks tell such a lovely story of more than a century of life and display. This piece has that perfect wabi sabi, gently aged beauty that collectors adore. Such a sweet decorative cushion for a shabby cottage interior, French country decor, farmhouse shelves, or wall hanging ~ it’s just precious! MEASUREMENTS This pillow measures approximately 17 inches by 12 inches, with an additional 6 inch wide ruffle ~ CONDITION This textile work of art is in fine condition with signs of time and use, exactly as expected for a Victorian piece over 120 years old. The silk ruffle has shattering, small holes, and splits typical of weighted silks from the 19th century. There are holes in the backing. Light wear, softening, and gentle fading appear throughout the velvet and ribbonwork. The backing cotton shows age toning and losses.
