Item Description Title: The Revised Statutes of the State of Maine, Fourth Revision Published: Portland: Loring, Short & Harmon, 1884 Binding: Original full law sheep/leather with dual-color spine labels Provenance: Inscribed "Samuel Runnals, Willimantic, Maine" on the flyleaf Condition Report: Exterior: The leather is heavily worn and exhibits "red rot" (flaking and powdering). The spine is missing pieces of the leather at the top and bottom, though the gold-stamped labels remain largely legible. The back cover has significant peeling of the leather surface. Interior: Very Good. In contrast to the cover, the internal pages are clean, bright, and firmly bound. There is light toning to the edges but no significant foxing or staining. Binding: The hinges are still holding, though they are fragile due to the leather condition. Historical Note: This volume was passed by the legislature on August 29, 1883, and contains the complete body of Maine law as it stood at the start of 1884. A wonderful genealogical or legal history piece for a Maine collector.
