Description

1904 St. Louis World's Fair US Government Building Postcard Posted. This antique postcard features a vibrant color illustration of the United States Government Building at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis. The detailed image captures the grand neoclassical architecture of the structure, which measured 200 by 850 feet, complete with its iconic dome and numerous flags fluttering along the roofline. Figures in turn-of-the-century attire are visible on the plaza in front, providing a sense of scale and life to this historic scene from the World's Fair. Produced during the Undivided Back era, this postcard includes a handwritten message on the front, which was common practice before postal regulations changed in 1907. The reverse side features a clear March 31, 1904, postmark from Indianapolis, Indiana, along with a green one-cent Benjamin Franklin postage stamp. A unique 'Compliments of Sunday Post-Dispatch' mark on the side adds additional provenance to this collectible piece of Missouri and exposition history.
