1933 Chicago World's Fair Ulm Cathedral Miniature Model Postcard RPPC. The front presents a striking image of the model against a stark black background, highlighting its intricate Gothic architectural details. The reverse side provides fascinating insights into both the real cathedral and its miniature counterpart. This captivating vintage postcard features a meticulously crafted miniature model of the iconic Ulm Cathedral, prominently displayed at the Hall of Religion during Chicago's "A Century of Progress" World's Fair in 1933. The front presents a striking image of the model against a stark black background, highlighting its intricate Gothic architectural details. This particular model, a magnificent replica of the original Ulm Cathedral in Wuerttemberg, Germany, was hand-carved from maple and holly wood by Gust Mrosek of Chicago, requiring seven years of dedicated craftsmanship. The reverse side provides fascinating insights into both the real cathedral and its miniature counterpart. The actual Ulm Cathedral, a monumental example of Gothic architecture, took 513 years to build, from 1377 to 1890, boasting a 525-foot spire and capacity for 30,000 people. The exhibited model itself was a substantial creation, measuring 9 feet high, 8 feet long, and 40 inches wide, comprising 4300 fitted pieces and even equipped with lights, art glass windows, and chimes. This historical postcard, copyrighted 1933 and produced by The Crogan Photo Service - Chicago, offers a unique glimpse into the ingenuity and artistry showcased at one of America's most celebrated expositions, making it a significant piece for collectors of World's Fair memorabilia, architectural history, and vintage Chicago ephemera.
