1940s Postcard Converse Hall, Georgia State Women's College, Valdosta Georgia. Demolition of Residence Hall (2022): The remaining residential portion of Converse Hall was demolished in early 2022 after being condemned for five years. This area was converted into alandscaped green space for the campus. NEXT DAY SHIPPING This vintage postcard depicts Converse Hall at the former Georgia State Women’s College in Valdosta, Georgia . This building was the foundational structure of what is now Valdosta State University (VSU) . History of Converse Hall Original Construction (1913): Built between 1912 and 1913, it was the first building on campus and initially housed everything for the college, including dormitories, classrooms, a dining hall, and administration offices. Destruction by Fire (1978): The original historic building shown in your image was tragically destroyed by a fire on April 14, 1978. Reconstruction (1981): A replacement structure was completed in 1981 on the same site to serve as student housing Current Status The site has undergone significant changes in recent years: Academic Building (2011): The north wing of the 1981 structure was demolished in 2010 to make way for a new 33,000-square-foot academic building. Opened in 2011, this modern Converse Hall now houses the Department of Psychology and Counseling , the Graduate School, and research administration offices.
