Description

Next Day Shipping This postcard is a commemorative greeting for Teacher's Day 1987 , sent by the renowned Chinese artist Huang Yongyu (黄永玉) to his teacher, Wang Renyu (王仁煜). Key Details of the Postcard Sender: Huang Yongyu (1984–2023), a famous modern Chinese artist known for his woodcut prints, ink paintings (especially of lotuses), and for designing China's first "Year of the Monkey" zodiac stamp in 1980. Recipient: Wang Renyu , who was Huang Yongyu's teacher during his time at Jimei Middle School (集美中学) in Fujian. Huang Yongyu often spoke fondly of his teachers from this period, which profoundly influenced his artistic development. Date: September 1987. The inscription specifically notes "1987年 教师节" (Teacher's Day 1987). Inscription Translation The vertical Chinese calligraphy on the right side translates to: Main Greeting: "Respectfully wishing Teacher Wang Renyu health and longevity." (敬祝 王仁煜老师 健康长寿) Closing: "Student Huang Yongyu [respectfully sends this], Teacher's Day 1987." (学生 黄永玉 敬赠 一九八七年 教师节) Visual Content The image on the postcard is a photograph of a curated scholar's desk arrangement , featuring: A bonsai-style floral or branch arrangement in a traditional brown ceramic pot. A white porcelain vase on a carved wooden stand. A small figurine of a person playing a flute. A black scholar's stone (Gongshi) in the background. A black-and-white portrait photo of Teacher Wang Renyu is affixed to the right side of the postcard. While there is no public record of a specific "edition size" for this postcard, its nature suggests it is a highly limited or one-of-a-kind item rather than a mass-produced commercial product. Here is a breakdown of why this item is so rare: 1. It is a Private Association Piece This is not a souvenir postcard sold in shops. It is a personal commemorative card created by the artist Huang Yongyu specifically to honor his former teacher, Wang Renyu . In Chinese culture, especially during the 1980s, such tributes were often custom-made or printed in extremely small batches for the artist's personal use to send to mentors and friends on special occasions like Teacher's Day. 2. Custom Photography and Portraiture The postcard features a curated photograph of a scholar's desk arrangement and an affixed portrait of Wang Renyu. This level of personalization—combining the artist's own aesthetic with a specific photo of the recipient—strongly indicates that this was part of a private, non-commercial printing intended for a very small circle of people connected to Wang Renyu or the school. 3. Historical Rarity 1987 Teacher's Day: This was only the third official Teacher's Day in China (the holiday was established in 1985). Commemorative items from this specific early period, especially those involving a high-profile figure like Huang Yongyu, are rare survivors. The Signature: If the signature and inscription are handwritten (rather than printed), the item is effectively a unique work of art (1 of 1). Even if the inscription is printed, the total number produced would likely have been limited to a few dozen or hundred at most, given it was meant for a specific individual tribute. Summary You likely hold an item that was never available to the general public. Its value lies in its scarcity and its provenance as a direct link between a master artist and the teacher who inspired him.

  1. Absolutely beautiful and exactly what I was looking for. Seller is proactive with communication removing any unnecessary concerns regarding the package location. I will definitely visit this seller again. The obsidian is flawless, which is rather amazing since it can be somewhat fragile and shipping isn’t exactly smooth. However, the item was packaged perfectly and the item was exactly as described/pictured. I feel I received more for my money. Thank you!!

  2. The item arrived in a timely manner and the ring is beautiful! I’m looking forward to wearing it for a long time. The only issue is I purchased it to wear as a wedding ring but my left finger was too small so I’ve had to accept wearing it on my left. I’m happy with my choice! The price is great, it’s exactly as described and it came in a black satchel which is the perfect package for safe keeping.
