ALAN PARSONS PROJECT I Robot 1977 Arista 1st Press AL7002 Abbey Road AOR NM By The second studio album from the Alan Parsons Project, released in July 1977 on Arista Records. Loosely inspired by Isaac Asimov's robot stories, I Robot built on the cinematic, orchestrated prog-rock foundation of Tales of Mystery and Imagination and pushed further into accessible AOR territory without losing its ambition. The album reached #9 on the UK charts and #18 in the US, establishing the Project as a genuine commercial and critical force. Side one opens with the six-minute title track before moving into "I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You," the charting US single. "Some Other Time," "Breakdown," and "Don't Let It Show" round out the side — all co-written by Eric Woolfson and Alan Parsons. Side two brings "The Voice," "Nucleus," "Day After Day (The Show Must Go On)" featuring Steve Harley, "Total Eclipse" — the sole Powell composition — and the closing "Genesis Ch.1 V.32." Recorded and mixed at Abbey Road Studios, London between December 1976 and March 1977. Produced and engineered by Alan Parsons, arranged and conducted by Andrew Powell. Vocalists include Allan Clarke, Steve Harley, Lenny Zakatek, Peter Straker, and Jaki Whitren, among others. This is an original US first pressing on Arista Records (AL 7002). The distinctive illustrated robot/geometric artwork label is correct for the original 1977 issue. Mastering contractor credited on the gatefold is David Katz. Pressed at H.V. Waddell Co., Burbank, CA — confirmed by the W identifier etched in both runouts. Issued in the original gatefold jacket with full lyrics and credits on the interior spread. --- PRESSING DETAILS: Artist: The Alan Parsons Project Title: I Robot Year: 1977 Label: Arista Records Label Design: Blue/purple with illustrated robot and geometric artwork Catalog Number: AL 7002 Country: United States Pressing: Original US First Pressing Mastering: David Katz (mastering contractor, credited on gatefold) Genre: Progressive Rock / AOR Style: Prog Rock, Art Rock, AOR Matrix: Side 1: hand etched AL-7002-A W Side 2: hand etched AL-7002-B W --- CONDITION: Vinyl: NM — Full gloss, looks new.
