Acer palmatum 'Friendship' RARE Variegated Japanese Maple READ DESCRIPTION. Any branches that are solid green and lack the gold variegation should be pruned off to maintain the variegation on this plant. ALL WINNING BIDS FROM THOSE STATES WILL BE CANCELED, NO EXCEPTION1 Acer palmatum 'Friendship’ is an extremely new and rare variety of variegated Japanese Maple that was found as a seedling growing at our nursery in 2019. I named this new cultivar ‘Friendship’ to honor all the great friends I’ve come to know through the years of collecting and growing Japanese Maples. Some of the very best people I know are maple collectors. The leaves on ‘Friendship’ are rather large and typical palmatum in shape. Golden splashes of variegation appear on the leaves of ‘Friendship’. During the spring, some of the golden leaves can be edged in pink or purple One note of caution, some reversions can occasionally appear on ‘Friendship’. This variety is rather fast growing, and the tree puts on about 6-8” of growth a year. We don’t know the ultimate size, but we guess that it will be about 10’ tall and 6’ wide after 10 years. Zones 5b-8. You are bidding on the actual tree that appears in the photographs . It is a nice 2 year grafted tree. The approximate height of this tree is 23" (inches) and the width is 7” (inches). The variegation becomes more distinct as the emerging trees mature, so the yellow areas will become more defined against the green areas..
