Rare Petite English Porcelain Staffordshire Spaniel Mantle Dog Pair • Length 3.5” • Height 4.5” This is a wonderful scarce gallery quality petite pair of white textural Staffordshire mantle dogs featuring classic formal expression black noses. In sought after style, this fine pair of stunning right and left facing figures is sure to bring a touch of English aesthetic to any setting when displayed on its own as a focal point or when featured as high point in a collection or arrangement. Excellent condition. Minimal if any age related wear. Any anomalies are expected and underglaze, such as some light characteristic firing lines to the front of the right dog. Not considered flaws as these manufacturing anomalies are valuable clues to the past. As English folk art, these figures were ruggedly made so factory original imperfections are common and part of their allure. Marvelous surviving scarce period examples to enjoy and treasure. Like new condition revealed under decades of soot from sitting atop mantelpieces adorning coal burning fireplaces. Splendid figures. In formal pose but full of personality and individualism.
