This is an amazingtraditional antique Tuareg handmade Berber desert tent leather paneled fringed window covering which was used as a curtain in a Tuareg tent window to keep out dust, sand, bugs, sun and heat. This antique Tuareg tent curtain or window shade was handcrafted from tribally raised and tanned leather made from goat hide which has been dyed dark brown, light tannish, red and indigo blue. The top panel of this antique tribal tent window curtain is embroidered with colorful thread displaying intricate patterns and which is highlighted with delicate white plastic floss and has a leather encased mirror amulet hanging in the center and plastic floss decorated sides. From this top embroidered panel of the African curtain hangs a very large amount of long colorful leather fringe with three strips of complex leather panels with hand carved or engraved geometrical designs which were artistically hand cut into the leather by removing small bits of the colored or tanned top layer of the leather to make amazing contrasting designs. This antique Tuareg tribal leather tent shade measure 39 inches long by 17 inches wide and is in good used condition with wear and minor damage to the embroidery and plastic thread decoration and the middle etched leather panel is missing one triangular drop pendant at the bottom of the leather panel. The Tuareg are a fierce semi nomadic people who range across the southern Sahara desert in Africa so being the Tuareg women are experts at packing and have always embraced functional items that display great beauty but which take up little space packed .
