BIG COUNTRY Chance 1983 Phonogram UK 12" Single COUNT 412 Tracks of My Tears EX Big Country arrived in 1983 fully formed — Stuart Adamson's guitar work mimicking the drone of bagpipes, a sound that was immediately distinctive and impossible to place anywhere else in the post-punk landscape. "Chance" was the lead single from their debut album *The Crossing*, reaching #9 on the UK Singles Chart. The extended 12" version runs over six minutes, stretching the guitar outro that defined the track on radio. The B-side pairs a live-cut version of "The Crossing" with a Smokey Robinson and the Miracles cover — "The Tracks of My Tears" — a 1965 soul classic that shows the band's range well outside their signature sound. Produced by Steve Lillywhite. Band lineup: Stuart Adamson (vocals, guitar), Bruce Watson (guitar), Tony Butler (bass), Mark Brzezicki (drums).
