BLONDIE Autoamerican 1980 Chrysalis 1st Press 1C/1J 1st Cut CHE1290 Rapture VG+. Both sides carry first lacquer cuts — Side 1 designated 1B, Side 2 designated 1J. The Pitman plant identifier "P" is stamped on both sides, confirming pressing at Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Pitman, NJ. BLONDIE Autoamerican 1980 Chrysalis 1st Press 1C/1J 1st Cut CHE1290 Rapture VG+ Blondie's fifth studio album, released November 1980, is one of the most genre-defiant records of its era. Recorded at United Western Studios in Hollywood, Autoamerican moves across calypso, jazz, orchestrated pop, and new wave without losing its footing. "The Tide Is High" hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Rapture" followed it to #1 — making it the first rap-influenced song to top the chart, with Deborah Harry delivering a freestyle that name-checked Fab Five Freddy and Grandmaster Flash. The album features guest appearances from Tom Scott on saxophone, Wa Wa Watson on guitar, and Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman on vocals. Jimmy Haskell arranged strings and horns. Produced by Mike Chapman. This is an original US first pressing on Chrysalis Records (CHE 1290), Chrysalis butterfly label with white to blue gradient, correct for the 1980 US issue. Both sides carry first lacquer cuts — Side 1 designated 1B, Side 2 designated 1J. The Pitman plant identifier "P" is stamped on both sides, confirming pressing at Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Pitman, NJ. The SX code is also present on both sides, consistent with documented Pitman variants of this pressing. The Side 2 deadwax shows struck-through characters preceding the 1J designation — a lacquer correction made during cutting, present on copies stamped from this lacquer. Mastered by Steve Hall at MCA Mastering, Glendale, CA. Hall began his career at Whitney Recording Studios before MCA acquired it in 1976. His early mastering credits include Blondie's "Heart of Glass," Pat Benatar's "In the Heat of the Night," and The Knack's "My Sharona." His initials SH and personal MCA signature are etched into the Side 1 lacquer. In 1982 Opened his own mastering facility — Future Disc Systems, in Los Angeles.
