Studios in London in October 1972, it captures Return to Forever at their most lyrical — Chick Corea on piano, Flora Purim on vocals, Stanley Clarke on bass, Joe Farrell on flute and saxophone, and Airto Moreira on percussion. Side 1 opens with "You're Everything" and the extended title track before closing with "Captain Marvel." Side 2 carries "500 Miles High," featuring Purim's wordless vocal flights over a polyrhythmic pulse, and closes with "Spain" — a nine-minute composition built on a phrase from the Adagio of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez that became one of Corea's most enduring and widely covered works. The album reached #6 on the US Jazz charts on release. This is an Original US First Pressing on Polydor, catalog PD 5525. Both the US number (PD 5525) and the European Polydor number (2310 247) appear on the cover and labels, reflecting the album's simultaneous international release. Mastered at Sterling Sound by Bob Ludwig — his RL initials are hand-etched in the deadwax on both sides to the right of the STERLING stamp Robert Ludwig was a renowned mastering engineer with a significant catalog at Sterling Sound through the early 1970s, spanning Atlantic, Polydor, and affiliated labels across jazz, rock, and soul. He left Sterling in 1973 to found Masterdisk. RL-mastered pressings of ANY record are actively sought by collectors. STERLING RL is present in the deadwax on both sides, making this the PRC Recording Company pressing variant, far less common and regarded as the superior version sound wise.
