Description
Civil War token, patriotic type, 390/434a, R-1, copper. One side shows a large " 1 " in the center of a small circle with rays coming off of it. Also, inside the circle is "PURE COPPER". At the left and right of the circle is a small left facing portrait of George Washington. Around the top is " I-O-U " with an arrow on each side, and at the bottom is "CENT" also with an arrow on each side of it. The reverse shows an eagle perched on a globe, with wings spread, and head to the right. Around the border, at top and bottom is " UNITED STATES COPPER". Both sides are medium brown, and still show most of the subdued luster .
