Embossing/Name - Diehl & Lord / Nashville / Tenn. Bottom: D. Variation/Color - One with proper "&", other with a backwards-slanted "&". Age - 1890- Condition - Both have minor wear. The right bottle has small nicks and chips throughout and minimal staining in the glass. The left bottle (rarer variation) has significant chips out of the base, likely from being dug from the ground. The left bottle has several flea bites and nicks in the base and side as well as significant sickness/staining in the glass texture. The left bottle also has an internal crack and a hairline crack inside the lip but appears stable. More photos available upon request. History - These bottles date to the post 1890 era when the company was called "Diehl & Lord". Previously called 2 Lords & Diehl, the company was officially founded in Nashville Tennessee in 1873 and both brewed and bottled beer as an agent for Schlitz, Lemp, and Budweiser. They did, however, operate in Nashville as early as 1869. Company closed in 1925. They exported beer between 1892-1902. Their business existed at 56 and 50 Church Street in Nashville, Tennessee and sold cream and ginger ales, porter, Pilsner, and lager beer as well as Ohio apple cider, mineral water, and soda waters. They sold products in stoneware, crown top, Hutchinson, and blob-top bottles. The owners full names are Adam and John Diehl and George Lord.
