Limited Edition ' Individually-Numbered ' CD Set ( of # 20,000 ) : Brand New / Factory Sealed ! : 1979 Early ' Brent-Era ! ' Grateful Dead !! at the Uptown ! - in the Windy City ! Early & Awesome !! " Brent-Era " Live-Dead ! from 1979 at the Uptown Theatre ! in Chicago !! - on the 1st ! ' Winter-Tour ' for Brent !! ... and also for " TIGER !!! " ... an Amazing ! snap-shot of a ' Transitional-Period ' Show delivering ' Both ' the Late-'70's Sound " Past ! " - and the Early-'80's Sound !! of " What's~To~Come ! " ... Lazy Lightning > Supplication ! - Althea ! - Music Never Stopped ! ... Scarlet > Fire !! - Samson ! - Terrapin > Playin' ! - Sailor > Saint ! - Truckin' > Johnny B. Goode !!! And ... quite-often when there's Smoke !?!! ... There's-Fire !!!!! The " New-Look ! " Grateful Dead ... " Bringin'-It !!! ". Deadheads !! -- " Brent-Heads ! " ... & " TIGER-Heads !!! " ... the Good Ol' " New-Look ! " Grateful Dead ' Live ' - from the Uptown Theatre ! in Chi-Town !! The Bands " 9th " Show ( of 17-Shows played ) at the " Fan-Favorite ! " rustic downtown Chicago ' performance-hall ' type indoor Venue ... which the Band " Rocked ! " Mighty-Impressively - from 1978 through 1981 !!! I mean ... Right ? -- Right-On !! ... " 17 " Dead-Shows ! in just " 4-Years !! " - at " The Uptown !!! ". And, being that this is indeed a " Brent-Era ! " pro-release Dave's Picks ?? ... I mean - you've just " Gotta~Grab~It !! " and stick This-One most-comfortably inside your cherished Live Music ! & Live-Dead !! CD Collection for pretty-much " Time To Come ! ". But, at the same time - I'll be totally honest here too - about a long standing and ' Self-Admitted ' ... " Lifelong-Dream ! " of-mine to see " The ! " 12/1/1979 Stanley Theatre Pittsburgh Show get pro-released in All ! of it's " Massive-Glory !! " ( & Rightfully-So ! ). So ... when I saw 12/3/79 ( with a slight-touch of the 12/4/79 Show ) get the ' Call ' for Dave's Picks 31 ? I was sorta-kinda initially bummed just a ' tad ' little bit ... since now it might just take until what ? - " Dave's Picks 62 " ? - " Dave's Picks 131 " ? - or " Dave's Picks 231 " ? ... until 12/1/79 gets Finally " Unleashed " ?!! But, I know, I know ... woulda, coulda, shoulda - and all of that jazz - Ha !! So yeah ( " Hint ! - Hint !! " - still !! & all ) - but ... this is certainly No-Way ! to sit here and treat 12/3/79 ! - because there is Indeed ! some " Very-Fine " '79 Dead Muscle ! right-inside Here ! - and, just one-look at the Set List itself !? ( Whoa !?! ) ... as you can quite-easily see the potential " Hot-Spots ! ". So, when I saw this one issued ( & the Way-Impressive Artistic " Cover ! " ) - I said to myself ' Two-Thoughts ' ... first : What a Killer Cover ! / then, second : But, Wait ? ... Why are we using a Stellar " Dragon !!! " Art - on a " Non-Mardi-Gras-Dead-Show " Cover ?? But, then the irony definitely got a little bit ' thicker ' too - as I slowly, but then totally-remembered 12/3/79 Uptown from my Dead-icated " Analog ! " Days ! ( & No ! ... they Are-Not ! ' Over ' - by any-means ... Ha ! ). So, there's really no real " PC " way to say this ( or, even type it, I suppose ? ) - so, I'll just put it this way ... the " Dragon Cover " is pretty darn ' appropriate ' in hindsight actually with at least the ' start ' of this 12/3/79 Uptown Show - simply because ... Jerry's chasin' it. If, you know what I mean & know what I'm saying here - which, I'm quite sure you do. But, this goes on only for the first 1/2 dozen Songs in the 1st Set - which, is obviously ' debatable ' ( + early Set II ' moment(s) ' as-well ) - but, at least that's where I'll just go ahead and draw-the-line on all that chatter. He's obviously just induced a bit too much, or we'll just say overindulged - from like Alabama > All Over Now-ish ? - so, if hearing Jerry have a bit of trouble gripping the fret board on-time and in-tempo ( like Jerry does ) bothers you a bit ? ... just simply start Disc 1 on the Lazy Lightning ! - and then you're in for the Start of a pretty much Magic-Packed ! G.D. Windy~City~Ride !! But, personally for me ? - I'll also take the All Over Now and Jack-A-Roe ! ( prior ) on-out - with the early/rare Country like ' staccato-note ' Intro ! by Jerry ... being pretty-darn Hot !! - for most certain. So ... I'm not really sure quite why ? a 5-song-straight Jerry fumble got selected for " pro-release " ? - as really anyone who has a good ear for Live-Dead music ( and especially from this era ) can hear with relative-ease that he's clearly struggling to get anywhere near to ' on-the-mark ' for his personally super-high standards ( no-pun intended ). But, you know ... anyhow. So yeah - and in-addition-to the Lighting > Supp ! & Music Never Stopped ! in the 1st Set ... here's " Truly " where it's at !!! >>> Scarlet > Fire ! ( more light J.G. ' Early-Set ' struggles here throughout, yet - still " Band-Solid " ) - Samson ! - " Terrapin !!! " ( J.G. at Best ?!! ) > Playin' ! - Sailor > Saint ! - Rat > Truckin' ! ... & Johnny B. Goode !! And too ... not to even mention the " Choice " Filler ! on Disc 3 from this same Uptown '79 run - from the very-next-night ( 12/4/79 ) ... a pretty-much " Remarkable ! " Estimated > Franklin's > Jam ! 3-Track Segment !!! And, just like on Set II of the 12/3 Show - the Boys sure start to ' Grip-It & Rip-It !! ' - right-inside That " Hot-Zone !!! ". And, if I had to pick a, or " The " Jerry-Moment ! on this 12/3/79 Show for myself ? - I'm going to have to go with the Terrapin !! - which definitely makes having This-Show a completely " No-Brainer " ( obviously ... ) just on that one-notion alone ! But, as far as that old adage - or, will just call it that " Good Ol' ! " adage - of ... " When There's Smoke ! -- There's Fire !! " ?!!! Hey, I mean I gotta say ... as Bobby Weir ! sure seems the one overall to be truly ' Holdin' the Lighter ! ' Up-High !! on this Show ... as Ace ! is just " Igniting ! " the Red-Hot !! - and at Pure-Will !! Seriously ... Lightning > Supp ! - Music ! - Samson ! - Playin' ! - Sailor > Saint ! - Truckin' ! - & J.B.G. ! He's Feelin'-It " Kind ! " - he's also got the Chi-Town Wind from the " Phil-Zone ! " right at his back ! - Brent & Jerry sharing the groove ! with some " Real-Nice ! Moments !! " on & off throughout - and the Rhythm Devils !! are just completely-playing-away ! & Pounding-Away !! just-like it's ... Nineteen~Seventy~Nine !!!!! ( ain't No-Disco ! here Dead Fans ! - Ha !! ) - with just " So-Much ! " Live-Dead " Heat !! " to come too, just around the corner ( Comin' Around ! ) - in This Mighty-Massive ! " Next-Decade !! " ( " The '80's !! " ) for the Good Ol' Grateful Dead !!! - Wow !! ... Enjoy !!!
