Offered here is the " 5th Show " from the Grateful Dead Europe '72 Tour on April 16, 1972 ( 4/16/72 ) at Aarhus University in Aarhus, Denmark ! And as you might well expect - considering the time & era of Grateful Dead Music we are talking about here... the band is Red-Hot right out of the gate & early! for this Monumental " Europe '72 " Tour ! Seven ( 7 ) Shows were played at the Academy of Music in New York City in Late-March (3/21-28/72), and if you have heard pieces, parts or all of that magnificent run - then you already know how " effective " that NYC run was as the ideal " Tour Warm-Up " for this Big-Time Europe '72 stretch that was right around the corner. Europe '72 kicked off at Wembley Empire Pool in London, England on 4/7/72, as part of a two-night stand. The 2nd tour-stop also took place in England ( Newcastle upon Tyne ) at the City Hall ! Then onto Copenhagen, Denmark ( for the 1st stop ! ) at the Tivoli Concert Hall ... Then this Amazing ! performance at Aarhus University on 4/16/72 in Aarhus, Denmark which is captured here in all of its glory on this amazing 3-CD digitally mastered Set !!! Then " back to " the Tivoli Concert Hall in Copenhagen, Denmark ( again ! ). Three Denmark Shows ! And from here ... there were 17 More Shows ( 22 in Total ) stretching from Bremen ( Germany ), to Dusseldorf ( W. Germany ), to Frankfurt ( 100 Year Hall ! ), to Hamburg, to Paris, to the Bickershaw Festival ( Wigan, England ), to Amsterdam, to Rotterdam, to France, to Luxembourg, to Munich, and back to London for a final 4-night stand at the Lyceum! Europe '72 !!! Yum ! Well ... in my humble Dead Fan opinion, the band was more than hitting their stride & collective cohesiveness at this point just nearly one-third through this 22-date tour, and this was the " middle " night of three Denmark stops - and the very neat thing about this show at Aarhus University is that it was actually " sandwiched " in between two ( 2 ) Shows at the Tivoli Concert Hall ( Denmark ) on both 4/14/72 & 4/17/72 !?! I mean Wow ! - talk about the Bozos & Bolos flying by the seat of their pants for this show ?! But hey, our beloved Grateful Dead was Young !, rough & ready at this point ... and they proceed to bring more of the " Europe '72 " magic ( naturally ... ) throughout all 3-Discs in this wonderful 3-CD Set ! Greatest Story smokes right out of the gate ! Black-Throated Wind definitely feels special here ... and the China > Rider offers some extremely ' mindful ' Garcia lead-themes that are guaranteed to make you smile. Disc 2 is a scorcher - as a Playing In The Band goes way deep ... backed by a Huge ! Good Lovin' just belted ! by Pigpen. Then - Wow ! - Cumberland, El Paso, Deal ! Disc 3 completely bursts with G.D. reckless vigor - as they are clearly " feelin' it " and are really getting after the jam-pockets all throughout ! The Setlist ( just about ) tells the tale of the tape here ... Truckin' > Jam ! > Other One > Me & My Uncle > Other One ! > Not Fade Away > GDTRFB > Not Fade Away ! Huge Grateful Dead, and probably indeed one of the fan favorites for those who have made the investment to acquire this whole Tour !
