Fellow Grateful Dead Fans ! who have always lived ! for those " R " for Rarities !! Well, then 2013 comes along years ago ... and here indeed ! is a curve-ball of a release, that " none " of us could ever get a piece of ?!?!? Well, that is ... unless you are a member of either " Mickey Hart and His Heartbeats " ! or ... " Bobby Ace and The Cards from the Bottom of His Deck " !! - or, if you were at the Family Dog in San Francisco on April 18, 1970 ( 4/18/70 ) .... or, if you are Mountain Girl ! My oh my, has she ever made 2013 a " Happy " one for my ears, and the ears of Waves ! of Grateful Dead Fans -- who love that " Good Ol' Grateful Dead " ... in the Acoustic ! format !!! Oh Wow ! This one is nowhere even near ! a stones-throw from Deadbase I,II,III,IV,V,VI,VII,VIII,IX,X,XI !!!!! Or ! in any of the Deadhead's Taping Compendiums !! Just a way-random rarity, that really no one out there ... except a very-select few - with darn good memories ! even Knew ! existed. Yes indeed ... as Carolyn Garcia ! returned these just around the middle of 2013, and the powers that be ... they got to work ! Apparently, all the reels that were ' returned ' were from 1970 & 1971, with this one really being the knock-down, drag-out Best ! And just to think that when I was a kid ... I used to spend my whole Summers ! ( minus the Dead Tour part, naturally ... ) just looking & hunting & actively-seeking ! this kind of " Magic ! ". The Grateful Dead indeed Did ! play on this night ... 4/18/70 at the Family Dog ! - and the Show Bill was shared with the Charlie Musselwhite ! - and none other than the New Riders of the Purple Sage !! ... and, I'm not even going to get into the Set List !, and/or the details here - because if you are indeed like me ... you like Surprises ! And frankly, this is one of the Hugest !!! Grateful Dead surprises in a long-time, right up there with the " Houseboat Tapes " ( Dick's Picks #35 ), the N.C. / N.J. 1969 / 70 Fillmore West ' return ' ( aka. Dave's Picks #6 ) ... but, this one is " Acoustic ! " Grateful Dead that we are talking about here - and my oh my, I don't know about You ? ... but this stuff is always near & dear to my Heart ! Oh, and as I'm sure you already well-imagined ... Pigpen is in the House !!! And so-is Bear, as he takes a little fun-loving lashing ! from the Boys - from the apparently crossed-up wires on the Stage-Monitors & the Sound ! Ha ! Pretty hilarious, I'll tell 'ya. But ! That's the only little hints into this one that I'm gonna give, and don't look below at the Set List ! if you-too ! want to be " Surprised " ! I actually managed to get this one in the house, opened & into the Home Stereo System ! ... without even looking at the back of the case - and, this Magical ! & Awesome !! Set List !!!!! And ... I have to say, Whoa !!! - my jaw was pretty much dropped, and after a few decades upon my head of G.D. Goods ... it takes a lot ! And this one, dang ... it had the Right Stuff !!! Three-Cheers for Mountain Girl ! As, come to think of it ... I even saw her at the Eugene Furthur Show !
