Live ! in 1969 !! - in NYC !!! ... Featuring Doug Irwin " Wolf ! " Cartoon Cover Art !! Massive ! G.D. release featuring Blistering-Hot ! '69 New York City G.D. - right at Bill Graham's Fillmore East - in New York City !!!!! Dead Fans ... If you have yet to put this one into your Archive - CD Collection - Music Rotation - or Playlist - well ... you had better get a Movin' ! Because this is Blistering-Hot ! 1969 Grateful Dead !! No Joke. No joke at all. This was ( Very Thankfully ! ) pro-released originally in 1997 - and it was really one of the 1st " Tastes " of G.D. Vault releases in the digital format - following the final Grateful Dead 1995 Tour. We were all curious what the strategy would be with the future of vault releases - as Dick's Picks was well on its successful way - just finishing up the 1st 10 releases ( through DP # 12 - I believe ? ) -- then came this - Blammm ! Right out of the blue ! To my eyes & ears - " 100 Hundred Year Hall " & " Fallout from the Phil Zone " - were the two non-Dick's Picks bombs ( good-bombs ! ) that the Dead Fans were hit with. Obviously ... " Phil Zone " was a compilation ( though a Massive ! one ) -- but here were two ( 2 ) other Huge ! Shows released in the 2-CD Format - and not by Dick Latvala - or under the " Dick's Pick's " Series. " 100 Year Hall " was first in 1996 - and then this '69 Heater debuted in 1997. Two immediately Must-Have Dead Shows - without any question at all. And here we are over 25-Years later ! now - and these two ( 2 ) releases are Still ! two of the Very-Best ! - that stand all on their own. And what's really crazy is to hear is just how ' different ' the Band had become in less than a 4-year period - from '69 to '72. And for those of you who treasure your heavy-duty - rough and ready Grateful Dead ( and Pigpen ! ) ... well here are just a few reminders of " 1969 " - almost light-years away from the '72 Sound >>> Schoolgirl - Doin' That Rag - King Bee - Hey Jude ?!? - Dupree's - Mountains of the Moon - St. Stephen - The Eleven - We Bid You Goodnight. None ! of which were played on - say the Europe '72 Tour ??! Wow. I mean just think about that. A list of Quintessential ! - Genius & basically Mind-blowing ! Good Ol' Grateful Dead - and none of it is on the set list roster just 3 years later - Wow. That is a true-sign of just how great this band truly is - they really didn't think they needed to still play All ! of this fantastic song & jam material because they simply had much more in them - and were continuing to grow. Whether the Late 60's/Early 70's Dead Fans were glad to see all of this material vanish ? I don't know. Luckily, some of it did make returns into the live rotation - but not quite in the quantity and quality you will hear between Early '68 and 1970. So really, as you probably already well know this is the Grateful Dead in the middle-midst of their Very 1st Big-Prime. Just Unbelievable ! Live Musicianship !! & Live-Delivery !!! offered here. Enjoy !!! ... as it is pretty hard not-to enjoy this young & feisty " Pigpen Era " Live-Dead !!!!! Just Killer . . .
