Dead Fans ... while I run the risk of not knowing whether or not you've heard this specific Show and/or this Grateful Dead " Era " before - hey, maybe you also saw - or maybe even were Touring with the Dead in '89 ? Hopefully-So !! But, I must say - even if I am repeating myself, just saying it again ... the same old story, the crow told me. Ha ! But seriously, I cannot say ' enough ' about this G.D. Era ... specifically this '89-'90 period, which included the return of the Warlocks ! - the Scene ( though maybe more bad, than good ) - the Band Synergy between the Boys ! ... and Brent !! Wow ... as here we are now close to 30-Years later, and I'm really afraid that from an overall Rock n' Roll " Legacy " perspective ... this Era is being slowly, but surely - kind of forgotten ? Well, not totally by any means -- aka. " Thank You For A Real Good Time ! " in the form of that Spring '90 Box Set ... Yesssss !!!!! But, I'm more so talking just about ' outside ' the Grateful Dead Fan Community, in general. Well hey, maybe it is true that Rock 'n Roll is sadly dying a bit more than I ever personally expected - and, the passing of the great J.J. Cale - Lou Reed - David Bowie - Prince - Tom Petty - etc. have had me thinking more & more about this reality. And, as far as in Grateful Deadland ? My goodness did a lot happen between the Mid-1980's and 1990 !!!!?! Some of the most-important Live Music this Planet will ever see - and, it was happening with steady consistency. The fact is, this '89 Fall Grateful Dead Tour was chocked-full ... as was the '89 Summer Tour prior - Spring '89 - Spring '90 - and Summer '90 too. This was a way note-worthy Live Renaissance ! in American Music History, and to my ear - it was even beyond the concept of a renaissance, or a return to the past ... and this Folks, may have arguably been the collective Grateful Dead at their Best ! - and if not " The-Best ! " -- without question, it was one of their vital & influential primes. Garcia came close to death in '86, and everything that followed truly showed the new & fresh perspective that he had on music & really, all of life. Go & watch either the 7/4/89 Buffalo - and/or the 7/7/89 JFK Shows on Video - and at least to me ? I would put some of that guitar playing against Any ! in Rock 'n Roll History. That ! is just how good this time was, and this '89 Fall Tour ? Well, it started out with the Band billing themselves as the " Warlocks ! " - and delivering some of the Greatest Live-Magic ! the Hampton Coliseum, and really - the East Coast for that matter - has ever seen. This was undoubtedly one of " The " Tours of All-Time, and this 10/16/89 Brendan Byrne Show here ? On these 2-CD's ?? Yeah, exactly ... as this was one of the Hot ! nights in this New York-Metro run, and arguably - it was indeed the Best ! Hampton - Spectrum - Meadowlands - Charoltte - Miami ... Wow ... as these are all Shows that give you the goose bumps just ' thinking ' of them. This " Nightfall of Diamonds ! " release is Absolutely-Brilliant ! As it encapsulates not only the Energy - Song Material - and the Sheer G.D. Magic ! that occurred on this run - but, it really grabs " The-Night ! " during the ' New York ! ' run on this Tour, where the Band was completely chompin' at the bit to deliver ! It came pretty easy to them on this Tour, for sure - and this 2-CD release here on 10/16/89 - really does a Wonderful ! job of showing the fruits of their labors. This Concert happened close to 30-Years ago now, and in my opinion - it is still one of the Best ! Concerts played - from any Band ' Live ' in these last 30-Years ... and you know what ? With ease, actually - and by a long-shot. And for a taste of the tale of the tape ? Just take a look at what happened in Set II - Oh-Wow ...
