A Smokin-Hot !!! ' Early-'80's ' Grateful Dead just Muscling ! the Philly Spectrum on Spring Tour 1982 !!! - Fellow '80's Dead Fans ... this one is just a flat-out Heater !!! ... and is what You ! have been waiting for. Whoa !!!!! Holy Pro-release !! & in ' Cassette-Master ' Style !!! Fellow Lovers of " 80's Dead " !!! ... You had better just fall-in for this one. Whoa !!! If perhaps you're on the hunt looking-out for some of the Absolute-Best ! Grateful Dead 1980's professional digitally-remastered releases -- well, look no further ! As far as this now-completed " Road Trips Series " goes, this was the Big-One ! for the fans that love their 80's G.D. ! Most of us Good Ol' Analoggers ( is that a word ? ) have all had pieces and/or parts of this fine Spring Spring Tour '82 show at the Philly Spectrum, and many of the 90 minute tapes circulating over the years were of above average soundboard quality -- but certainly not this !! And even after ' multiple ' tape upgrades, through the years & years. Garcia's vocal tracks & Brent's Fender-Rhoads keyboard tones appear to have been very-nicely " doctored ", or at least to my ears. A lot of the master soundboard tapes ( from my understanding ) had equalization issues which led to a real shortness of the professional releases from this fine & powerful period / Era of the Band. And, as of this 2011 release ... I believe we have actually only seen four ( 4 ) previous " Early-'80's ! " Series-Releases ever ! from that mighty-Vault ? I think this here Two-Set Philly '82 Heater -- the 10/15/83 Hartford Dick's Picks # 6 -- the 5/6/81 Nassau Dick's Picks # 13 -- & the magnificent Alpine Valley 8/7/82 Dick's Picks # 32 are it ??!? Am I missing one here, just off the top of my ( Dead ) head ??! Ha ! Well, anyhow ... the Spring Tour '82 run at the Spectrum ?!!! ... a stellar choice indeed - no doubt, and certainly one that I would have strongly recommended on my " Top 25 " that we fans Definitely-Need ! pro-released from the great & far-underrated G.D. year of '82. Not only does this release offer the entire 4/6/82 show, but you are also treated to seven ( 7 ) additional Bonus Tracks from the 4/5/82 Show, just the night prior. The sound was mighty-pure during this Pre-Midi Era to my ear, and it really tested the band to create magic with their minds & communication much more then relying on their tech-tools. Brent's rig is the most synthesized during this period, but in a good-way to my ear -- much more then in mid-'83 through '84 : the period I've heard some more negative-type fans refer to as the " cheese-keys " period. Whatever ... But I do recognize the point they are trying to make. Ace's vocals are just choice throughout this release, and that's quite possibly why it was picked ! Either that, or the mind-blowing & monumental " Shakedown !!! " kicking off Set 2 ( Disc 2 ) that Garcia just right-out manhandles. A Childhood Favorite ! Shakedown of mine personally ... You too ?! He just heavy-muscles the jam in this one, Jerry-fans - so do-not fail to hear or get this one in your possession ! The Mutron-envelope certainly pays the price & probably had to have some batteries & cords changed after he smokes these jams. " Where's Steve ? " ... Ha !! Also, it is to note that Garcia's tone is heavy & glassy ( Silver-Face !! ) not only throughout this Show, but also this whole Spring Tour '82. You are treated to slightly more overdrive than gravely / fuzzy distortion ( MXR D+ ! ), and you can just hear the Magical-Happiness ! that Jerry is feeling & directly channeling. He can get " Big " when needed, but he does not lose any of the necessary amp-pop on the 1st set material ( i.e. Brown Eyed Women & Big RxR Blues ). The set lists are just mighty-perfect for this '82 period, and outside of this Killer-Shakedown !! - Bobby's Sailor > Saint - and the Truckin' > Other One > Dew > Sugar Mag is probably ( arguably ? ) the center-point of this very ... Very-Fine ! Road Trips Series release. I'm glad they did not neglect the 80's through the life cycle of this very-beloved Road Trips Series, or I might have been quite sad. But ... alas !!! For me, this is one I always dreamed would be a pro-release, and I was just super-fired-up ! when it actually happened. In fact, this is the type of CD Set that you probably should opt to keep forever & ever -- right in that " A " Rack !!! Awesome !!!!! -- Enjoy !!!!!!!
