Side A runs through "Down in the Bottom," "No Place to Go," "Sitting on Top of the World," "Smokestack Lightnin'," "The Red Rooster," "Spoonful," and "Evil.". HOWLIN WOLF His Greatest Sides 1984 Chess 1st Press CH-9107 Killing Floor NM/EX --- One of the essential Howlin' Wolf collections. His Greatest Sides, Volume One gathers fourteen recordings cut for Chess between 1954 and 1965 — the core of what made Chester Burnett one of the most influential figures in Chicago blues and a direct ancestor of rock and roll. Side A runs through "Down in the Bottom," "No Place to Go," "Sitting on Top of the World," "Smokestack Lightnin'," "The Red Rooster," "Spoonful," and "Evil." Side B opens with "Killing Floor" — the track Led Zeppelin absorbed into "The Lemon Song" — and continues through "Do the Do," "I Ain't Superstitious," "Who's Been Talkin'," "Three Hundred Pounds of Joy," "Back Door Man," and "Wang Dang Doodle." Willie Dixon wrote or co-wrote the majority of these sides. Hubert Sumlin plays guitar throughout. This is the original US first pressing of this compilation, released in 1984 on Chess Records, then operating as a division of Sugar Hill Records, Ltd., distributed by MCA. Mastered by Jack Skinner at Sterling Sound, New York. Reissue engineering by Eric Thorngren, credited on the back cover. Sterling Sound was among the premier mastering facilities in New York through this era. Pressed at the MCA Pressing Plant, Pinckneyville, Illinois, identified by the ⧈-P- ⧈ stamp in both runouts. Blue label with white checkerboard border, "Chess Records" in curved lettering. A documented label variant — Side A is correctly titled "His Greatest Sides Vol. 1" while Side B carries a label printing error reading "His Greatest Hits Vol. 1." Both catalog numbers appear on each label: CH-9107 (cover catalog) and CH-8205 (internal matrix catalog). Originally produced by Leonard and Phil Chess.
