Description

Hotel Perry Petoskey Michigan Alton G Cook Publisher Vintage Postcard. Antique printed postcard showing the historic Hotel Perry in Petoskey, Michigan . This large three-story wooden hotel features detailed siding, tall windows, and a wide wraparound veranda lined with rocking chairs—typical of turn-of-the-century resort architecture. The hotel name is clearly visible above the central entrance, and a set of stairs leads to the welcoming porch. Published by Alton G. Cook, Petoskey, Mich. , card number 372 . The reverse is a standard undivided back with message and address sections, dating this to the early 1900s (circa 1907–1915) . The card is addressed to C. C. Briggs and contains a note that intriguingly reads: “There is a story goes with this I will write when I have more time.” Location: Petoskey, Michigan – Hotel Perry Publisher: Alton G. Cook, Petoskey, Mich. Card Number: 372 Type: Printed postcard (not RPPC) Era: Early 1900s (undivided back period, c. 1907–1915) Condition: Light edge wear and toning consistent with age, small corner crease. Good clarity and detail of hotel structure. Writing on reverse as shown. Historical Context: Petoskey, on the shores of Little Traverse Bay, became one of Michigan’s premier resort towns in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Large hotels such as the Hotel Perry catered to summer tourists arriving by train and steamship, often from Chicago or Detroit, seeking the cool breezes of northern Michigan. The presence of a wide veranda with rocking chairs reflects the leisurely summer culture of the era. This is a wonderful addition for collectors of Petoskey history, Michigan hotels, resort architecture, and early 20th-century travel postcards .
