James Dudley J.D. Slay III Oil Painting On Canvas Of Monterey Pacific Coastline. This is the plein air style he is famous for and showing the Pacific coastline, probably Monterey. He captured perfectly the colorful Eucalyptus trees that grow only in California. He began his formal instruction in illustration at the New England School of Art and Design, in Boston, Massachusetts. On auction, we have an oil on canvas painting signed "J.D. Slay III". This is the plein air style he is famous for and showing the Pacific coastline, probably Monterey. He captured perfectly the colorful Eucalyptus trees that grow only in California. The painting measures approximately 15 1/2" X 20". In its custom frame, this is 23" X 27" X 1 1/2" and weighs 7 pounds 6.5 ounces. About the artist: “James Dudley Slay III was born on October 2, 1953, in Jackson, Mississippi. He began his formal instruction in illustration at the New England School of Art and Design, in Boston, Massachusetts. He briefly attended Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles and Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. He followed this with instruction from Russian impressionist, Sergei Bongart who had a major influence on his artistic direction. His specialty is painting in the plein air tradition and in studio, images of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, California Central Coast, San Gabriel Mountain Range, Southern California Beaches and Desert, and the Monterey Peninsula.” (Art Brokerage & Artnet) I believe this is in excellent condition. The painting is bright, bold, clean and clear. I see no flaws.The back paper is torn and I can see that the canvas is clean. This has not been examined out of the frame.
