Description

Japanese Beauty Art Book HALCA Photo Works: The Beginning of Suicide 2025 New. A debut photobook by Haruka (HALCA), capturing a soul on the verge of rupture through intense self-portraiture. HALCA (Haruka). (処刑軍団蚯蚓之血肉). “A girl’s body belongs to the girl herself. The girl kills the girl within herself and turns her into a work. “I cannot live unless I kill myself.” A debut photobook by Haruka (HALCA), capturing a soul on the verge of rupture through intense self-portraiture. This work presents a raw and poetic exploration of death and rebirth, expressed through the artist’s own body and gaze. Here, self-portraiture becomes an act of transformation—where the self is repeatedly destroyed and re-created in order to become art. “A girl’s body belongs to the girl herself. Her life, her sexuality, her sanctity, her justice—she governs them all. Creation is another name for death. The girl kills the girl within herself and turns her into a work. In order to become a poem, she photographs herself— she ‘self-shoots’.” — Temba Matsunaga (Urban Garde) ⸻ Critical Commentary “In her work, death and rebirth always run in parallel. Guiding the space between them is her ‘philosophy of girlhood’— a sensitivity to the world, the power to weave oneself into narrative, and the will to step into the unknown.” — Kenichi Murata, Photographer ⸻ Artist Statement “Every time I photograph myself, I die once. I kill the version of myself that should already be dead, again and again, and let her be reborn over and over. This photobook marks the beginning of that process.” — HALCA ⸻ Poetic Fragment Gently rocked by quiet ripples and the noise of the city, I thought of dying again and again. I will never hand over the path of my life, nor the way I die, to anyone. The solitude I loved belongs only to me. ⸻ About the Artist HALCA (Haruka) Born April 25, 2004.
