" Bay Area 1978 " 2-CD Set release from 2009, which was the Last & Final release of the " Pure Jerry " Series released by the Jerry Garcia Estate, LLC / Jerry Garcia Family between 2004 and 2009. This last & final installment was extremely short-printed, and my personal thoughts / opinion on the reason for this situation are listed below, for your information ( see " Please Note " ). As you probably already know ... it is close to impossible to find, and has been ever since this 2-CD release quickly ran out in 2009. Here today, if you are a collector of this great series, or you are just a collector of the very best Jerry Garcia pro-releases of all time - then this simply needs to be a " check mark " on your list of music to acquire. You could argue that this may have been the very best release in the entire Nine Volume " Pure Jerry Series ", but obviously it completely depends on your personal " Taste " in the various Garcia Band line-ups, different era, repertoire / styles, etc.. But as for the music itself - and the specific time & place that it occurred in 1978 ... you could make an argument that it was one of, if not " The " J.G.B. Prime-Era, and subsequent Tours during one of the most all-time creative eras of the Jerry Garcia Band. Simply put, Jerry Garcia's favorite solo album effort he was most proud of was his 1978 release " Cats Under the Stars", and arguably to many Deadheads the 1978 Tour was one of the very best Jerry Garcia Band Tours of all time - featuring Jerry with John Kahn, Donna & Keith Godchaux, Maria Muldaur & Buzz Buchanan on Drums. This 2-CD Set offers a mind-blowing selection ( compilation ) of amazingly-tight musical performances during the J.G.B. 1978 Bay Area Tour. A " Best Of " moments collaboration of the 1978 J.G.B. West Coast ( Bay Area ! ) Tour ! In my personal opinion, and to my own ears & J.G.B. taste, there is some high-energy jamming & completely groundbreaking live-creativity on these 2-CD's that will totally blow you back in your music chair, and pretty-much drop your jaw. This fine live release Series of ' Jerry Made Live Recordings ' started in 2004, and very abruptly ( strangely ? ) halted after this 2009 release " Bay Area 1978 ". My assumption ( though, only my personal speculation ) is that perhaps unfortunate legal squabbles over the Jerry Garcia Estate may have led to a temporarily halting and discontinuation of the Pure Jerry Series. Because this was the latest & final release in the series, it seems that it was printed in much-shorter quantities ( significantly-shorter ) and they all sold out very fast ( mainly through the Pre-Order system ). Simply put, this 2-CD Set is nearly-impossible to acquire, and it has pretty much been that way since 2009 when it was originally debuted/released.
