Jerry Garcia - Jerry Garcia Band : Let It Rock : Jerry Garcia Band - Keystone Berkeley - Berkeley, California ( CA ) : November 17 & 18, 1975 ( 11/17/1975 & 11/18/1975 ) : 2 CD : The Jerry Garcia Collection - Volume 2 ( JGCD 0010 ) : 2009 (1975/2009) Jerry Garcia Family, LLC / Rhino ( JGF / Rhino ) : Very-Rare !!!!! The Jerry Garcia Band Live in '75 ! ... at the Keystone-Berkeley !! - " Let It Rock ! " - as the Title says it All - WOW !!?! LET IT ROCK !!!!!!!!! LET IT ROCK !!!!! People, this ' Title ' here is no-joke. And whoever it was that coined this simple, yet perfectly accurate title for this '75 Keystone Berkeley release deserves a ' Deadhead & Garcia-Fan Medal of Honor ' ... of some sort ?!? I mean there are days when I'm thinking " Hmm ... what should I listen to now ? " Oh yeah : Let It Rock, naturally ... - I mean why was I confused anyways ?! It sort of has the same title-effectiveness as " Don't Let Go " which we all know is yet another Tried & True J.G.B. Treasure. No, but on a serious note - this release came out back in 2009 and it is a Masterpiece in all contexts of the word. This 2-CD release might just define Rock 'n Roll perfection ?! This is the early ( & really the very 1st ) coming of age of the Jerry Garcia Band, taking the baton and running ( fast ! ) to the next stage of J.G.'s development as THE ! Bandleader. This is a stripped-down quartet with merely Jerry - John Kahn - Ron Tutt ( of the Elvis Presley Band ), and Nicky Hopkins ( of Rolling Stones Fame - just think ' Jamming w/ Edward ' ! ). This band is dead-sync tight, the recording is immaculate ( close to perfection ), and Garcia is just at a purely unique ( and Very comfortable ) best of all time. There are no back-up vocals here, and you'll see why none are needed, as Nicky Hopkins can do the job on his own with his fancy finger-work. Because it's a quartet, obviously there are copious amounts of musical space available for Jerry's guitar to penetrate at high volumes throughout, but there is something even more unique with this unit. The unique ( and consistent " down(lowered)-tempos " allow more crystal clean amp tone than your speakers, ears & mind can even handle. I'm pretty certain this is one of the last stands of Jerry playing through his '65 black-face Fender Twin pre-amp, before his ( almost ) 100% switch over to the silver-face ( '68 ) twin religiously in Late-'76 / Early-'77 ? He sounds so good it will blow you back. Another cool thing on the matrix-mix, is that you can hear just enough faint-crowd to feel that you are in the room. Actually, I take that back -- it really feels like you are standing on-stage, smack dab between Jerry & Nicky and you are listening to the stage monitors only. This could almost be one of those very special ' head-phones only ' situations. Catch my drift ? There are sixteen ( 16 ) tracks on this 2-CD release, and my feeling was that I got my money's worth after the very 1st song : Let It Rock ! Since I was a kid, I just about wore my treasured 12/20/75 Winterland SBD out ! When this November 17th & 18th Keystone-Berkeley release hit the shelves, I almost could not even believe it ?!? Pure ! Bliss ... Yet another Garcia Fan dream come true ! This is something special, and if you have yet to attain it ? Do yourself a gigantic favor & treat yourself, as every note played feels worthy of its weight in gold. Please do ... Enjoy !! this Very-Fine ! Jerry Garcia Band Masterpiece !!!
