Two ( 2 ) Commanding-Performances !! by the Jerry Garcia Band ( JGB ! ) on the Massive ! 1989 East Coast Tour !! - in Maryland !!! ... at MPP !!!! - Two ( 2 ) " Complete ! " & Back-To-Back ! Garcia Band Shows !!! -- Amazing !!!!! Garcia Fans !!! What a Massive ! release from a Massive !! J.G.B. East Coast '89 Summer Tour !!!! Alright Jerry Fans & Deadheads ... just take a second to think back here on just how big, important & vital this 1989 Garcia Band Summer Tour really was ! With the exception of the 18 Monumental Acoustic & Electric performances at the Lunt-Fontanne on Broadway in New York City during October of 1987, the " Electric " Jerry Garcia Band had not graced the East Coast with its one-of-a-kind magic since August 1984 ! Outside of that, a few short Acoustic ( Jerry & John ) runs were the only chance that East Coasters had to see Jerry plug-in unless they hopped on planes, or took the coast-to-coast drive out west ! This 5-year hiatus from touring solely ' electric ' in the East was partially due to Garcia's decline in health in '86, and then was again put on the back-burner ( but in a more positive way ) by Jerry's involvement with the Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band, and their associated studio projects & short touring stints. So as it goes without saying - the eager crowd anticipation on the East Coast was hot & at an all-time high, as everybody was just so stoked to see their Jerry Band ! And the best part is that Garcia took control of his recent health issues, and was just downright ready-to-go ( & Rock ! ) on this run ! This was a 12-Date, 10-Venue / State ( MD - PA - CT - NY - NJ - MA - ME - WI & IL ) East Coast / Mid-West swing that was Blistering-Hot ! from start-to-finish. Jerry & the Band's Energy was Infectious ! throughout this entire run, and at the time it almost seemed like they were just as pumped-up as the crowd in the spirit of this fine welcome & return Back East ! This Huge 4-CD !!!! Set release captures the J.G.B. right out of the starting-gates on this Tour, and offers the entire 1st Two ( 2 ) nights of this Tour " Complete " ( Every Note ! ) at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland ( right outside the Nation's Capital ! ) in magnificent fashion. M.P.P. is a Sweet ! Venue - and is an very old & cherished one - as Musicians the likes of the Jimi Hendrix Experience have even played there, so it indeed offers some fine Rock 'n Roll History ! in its own self. However, to the Deadheads ... this Tour was even sweetened, and the ticket-demand was definitely heightened because you also had Bob Weir & Rob Wasserman opening for the J.G.B. this Entire-Tour !! Yes, this was that-big - a chance to see Jerry - with Bobby opening back in Prime '89 !! Arguably to many Deadheads, the Grateful Dead hit their late-prime ( or maybe even their " Prime " period during 1989-90 ). Those days folks ... were indeed the Good Ol' Days ! looking back on them now & whomever decided to release these both of these Two ( 2 ) ' Complete !! ' M.P.P. Tour-Openers ! as a pro-release ( Together ! - in One Set !! ) deserves a J.G.B. Fan " Badge of Honor ! " just for doing so. How Sweet It Is !!! ... Enjoy !!!!!
