The " Complete ! " 3-CD Set from 2005 !!! Wow .. .. .. I mean Someone ( the powers that be ) had the great sense in 2005 to put together a compilation of Jerry Garcia masterfully covering Bob Dylan songs ... Live !!! I guess this is long-overdue, when you really think about it - but the important thing obviously is - that it did finally happen. And in Grand-Fashion ! For many fans of both Dylan & Garcia, over the last 40 years there is a good chance that one of these Musical Masterminds ! led you to the ' other ' Musical Mastermind !, or visa-versa. Thank goodness they decided to haul it together as a unit way back in '86 & '87 and take it into the studio, then on the road - U.S. Tour Style !!! There were only a handful Shows - just about a dozen, but the fruits of their collective labor was groundbreaking for not only live Rock 'n Roll -- and for their individual Spirits ! Jerry was a loud & proud fan of Dylan, and portrayed a magical, musical ' tribute ' just about every single time he plugged-in live. Bob created the legendary music & song-writing, and Jerry would so elegantly paint the colorful brush-strokes - as the talented artist he was. While Jerry would speak with his guitar, whether it was live in a Stadium, Amphitheatre, Hockey-Rink, or even the cozy Warfield Theatre ..... Dylan took his admiration for Jerry even a step further stating it in words : as he was actually quoted ( in '95 ) as saying " Jerry Garcia is the Ultimate Interpreter of My Songs. ". There is really no higher compliment, coming from Dylan himself who really has no song-writing equal, and probably never ever will - especially from the ' volume ' standpoint. I'll never forget seeing the picture of Dylan at Jerry's funeral in the San Francisco Chronicle, as it was one of the saddest looks I myself have ever seen. Obviously, as it goes without saying there was a very special musical brotherhood here with these two geniuses. To me personally, Dylan is the master of words, music & the song, and Jerry is the master of both the acoustic & electric guitar, and the vocal emotion he can covey is surreal, powerful & truly unmatched. And even as Dylan said too about Garcia's amazing ability to play guitar, sing & convey emotion ... ' Moody '. Wow ... So-well said ... by Dylan ! I was fortunate enough to be at the Oakland Coliseum with one of my best friends in the whole world on this 10/31/92 Halloween night included here in this 2-CD Set when Jerry made his ' mighty-comeback ' and kindly asked us all " So ... How Have Y'all Been ?!! ". Then the " Tangled Up In Blue " from this release was eventually played with all of the J.G.B. excellence we loved & respected - but never-ever took for granted. To me, that was one of my favorite days of my life - and at that time, it seemed like it was really one of Jerry's favorite days ever too. Yet another " Triumphant Return ! ", but this one just seemed something special - as you could truly feel it in the air throughout the Oakland Coliseum. Back on the stage with all his Band mates, Friends & Fans plugged-in electric- in the Bay Area interpreting & delivering the Bob Dylan goods. Just some completely Legendary ! Jerry Garcia " Garcia Plays Dylan Again " Bonus Disc CD !! This is the Incredibly-Rare & Awesome ! ' Garcia Plays Dylan Again ' Bonus Disc CD released in 2005, and distributed with the ' Garcia Plays Dylan ' 2-CD Set. A Jerry Garcia Fan & Music Collector's Treasure ! indeed, and Musically ? ... Wow !!! This is the " Bonus Disc " CD that ' completes ' this Amazing ! 2005 ' Garcia Plays Dylan ' release, which in itself is a completely Magnificent ! 2-CD Set featuring Jerry Garcia covering Legendary Bob Dylan songs Live ! ... with the Jerry Garcia Band - Legion Of Mary - Garcia & Saunders - and the Grateful Dead ! There were fifteen ( 15 ) songs in total on this original release ( the 2-CD Set ) - with seven ( 7 ) on CD 1, and eight ( 8 ) on CD 2. So, in essence ... the tracks on this Bonus Disc CD are the three ( 3 ) tracks that were not included, and were left off of this release - due to CD disc space, I assume. And, the simple fact is -- None ! of these tracks should have been left off anything ! ... because they are simply Amazing !!! Firstly, the opening track features Jerry Garcia covering Dylan's Historic ! tune - ' It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry ' - Acoustically ! with the Garcia / Kahn Band at the Neighbors of Woodcraft venue, in downtown Portland, Oregon ! on June 4, 1982 ( 6/4/82 ) !!! Secondly, this release features Jerry Garcia covering Dylan's beautiful song - ' Tears Of Rage ' - Electric ! with the Jerry Garcia Band at the Greek Theatre ! on the University of California - Berkeley campus on August 5, 1990 ( 8/5/90 ) !!! And, the last - but most-certainly not the least ! track ... clocking in at an amazing 18:56! - features Jerry Garcia covering Bob Dylan's song Masterpiece ! - Going, Going, Gone - Electrically ! with the Legion Of Mary on May 22, 1975 ( 5/22/75 ) !!! Totally brilliant ... and then some. The fact is - well, at least in my personal opinion ... these tracks fell a little more on the " Musician's-Music " side of things, or - at least in that direction ... so, when the selection-process came -- the Very ! tough decision was made to leave these tracks off !?! Well, something had to go - for ' space ' reasons , but at the same time ... it is so incredibly cool ! that the decision was made to still ! release them all in this form of this Bonus Disc CD ! --- ' Garcia Plays Dylan Again ' ... so Appropriately ! titled.
