Simply because Disc 2 in this 2-CD Set is an incredible " Live ! " compilation of Jerry Garcia ( Jerry Garcia Band - Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band - Old & In The Way & Reconstruction ) tracks !!! There are Ten ( 10 ) ' Live ' tracks featured on this Disc, and there are Sixteen ( 16 ) Studio Recordings offered on Disc 1 too ! If you didn't make the investment in the " All Good Things ", then this might be one of the best releases available to treat your ears to a solid platform of Jerry Garcia studio material from 1972 through 1978 ( 16 Songs ), while at the same time you also have a Full-CD ( 10 Songs ) of Jerry and his various Fantastic Bands " Live " !!! I have an inherent tendency to buy every Garcia release ever pro-released, but I made the mistake of passing on this one when it was originally released - simply because I already owned the " Box Set ". Well, hindsight is always 20/20 - right ? Ha ! And I can tell you with complete-certainty now, that my line of thinking was most definitely a mistake ! This CD 2 of " Live ! " tracks is the Good-Stuff ! ... you know, the Hot-Stuff !! Garcia heading-up over 5 ! different / various versions of his Bands ! >>> Old & In The Way ! - the Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band ! - the Reconstruction ! Project - and the various '75, '77, '80 & '90 ! Jerry Garcia Band units ! The Live-Tracks range in this quintessential Garcia 1973 to 1990 period, and there is even an amazing " Dear Prudence " recording from the " Reconstruction " Era ( 1979 ), that is by itself worth the overall price of admission on just this one ! This in my opinion is a Way ! Must-Have in the Music Collection - and mainly because there are really no other live " compilation " releases of Garcia's music - anywhere ? ... with a mix of various Years !! So when you're in the mood for " Live " but don't want to listen to a full-show from just one night / date / era, then this Fantastic ! release more then fits the bill. The 2-CD Disc Set portion was named & promoted appropriately as " The Very Best " of Jerry Garcia ( & The Jerry Garcia Band ). This was a pretty bold statement ( since it's Garcia, and all ... ), but this pristinely remastered 2-CD Set certainly rose to the occasion ! ... in delivering the Garcia goods ! I was genuinely-impressed with the thoughtfulness of this release - in the fact that it offered a 1-Disc compilation of Studio Tracks, along with a 2nd Disc offering many never-before released ( or even-heard ! in some cases ) ' Live Tracks ' from over the years ( 1975 on ... ). However, as I'm sure you could imagine it was a pretty tall order ( big time ! ) trying to put the " Very Best " of Jerry Garcia on a 2-CD Set. So ... due to disc space & song timings, etc. this Ultra-Rare 3rd " Bonus Disc CD " was also released ! This 1-CD Bonus Disc was so very-accurately billed as " Jerry Garcia More Of The Best : The tunes that wouldn't fit on the other CD's ". Classic ! Talk about just calling it like it is ... Ha ! So essentially, the original 2-CD release is not truly " Complete ! " in entirety unless you also have this here 3rd CD installment of J.G. rarities ! And wow, it must have been a pain-staking decision ( yet one that had to be made - due to disc space ) to leave these additional tracks off the 2-CD Set -- Twenty-Five ( 25 ! ) Minutes-plus of Extra-Jerry !! - both Electric ! & Acoustic !
