Matcha, a powdered tea whisked with hot water to create frothy enjoyment, was introduced to Japan by Zen master Eisai, founder of the Rinzai school, during the Kamakura period around 800 years ago. Inspired by its health benefits during his training in China, Eisai brought the matcha method and tea seeds to Japan for cultivation. Later, Myoe Shonin of Kyoto’s Kosanji Temple received tea seeds from Eisai and established a tea garden, marking the beginning of full-fledged tea production. He passionately guided cultivation methods, planting seeds in suitable regions, eventually reaching Uji—a legendary tea-growing area. Traditional Covered Cultivation for Superior Flavor Uji, near Kyoto, provides ideal conditions for tea cultivation, with the mist from the Uji River protecting the plants from frost and softening sunlight. During the Muromachi era, Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu encouraged Uji tea production, establishing the "Uji Seven Famous Tea Gardens" for the shogunate, propelling Uji's reputation as a premier tea region. Tea producers, rather than relying solely on favorable conditions, strived for higher quality through innovation. In the 16th century, the "covered cultivation" method was introduced. This technique involves covering tea gardens with straw or reed mats for over 20 days before harvest, shielding the tea from sunlight. This shading process allows the new leaves to grow tender and vibrant while accumulating more theanine, the source of the tea's umami. This historically innovative method continues to enhance the quality and flavor of Uji tea. Premium Uji Matcha Matcha, a type of green tea, differs in production methods and is produced in limited quantities, making it more expensive. Yet, its delightful aroma and sweetness are cherished, even in confectioneries. Its unique fragrance, bitterness, and sweetness—unlike everyday teas—are widely popular internationally. Recently, more people are enjoying authentic matcha casually at home, savoring the tradition of tea whisking. Delivered from Ujitawara, Kyoto—the birthplace of Japanese green tea. The concept of "Cha no Ma," once central to Japanese homes, represents a place where families gather, share tea, and enjoy togetherness. At Ujitawara Tea Company, founded in the early Showa period, we continue to cherish and promote the importance of Japanese tea and "Cha no Ma" culture. Located in Ujitawara, one of Japan’s finest tea-growing regions, we are committed to quality and safety in the production and sale of Japanese tea. Shipping We will ship to world wide by EMS. 1. I received my records sooner than expected, considering the distance. The box was wrapped in bubble wrap and secure inside a flip lid mailer, which I may use to store it when I’m not listening to them. It had some wear around the corners, but that was shown in the pictures and these box set is known for having that type of wear, so it was as advertised. The price was pretty good for the fact they’re Beatles records and over 40 years old. No shipping issues, it arrived early.
