The National Geographic Society prepared and published this book as a public service/gift to the nation, with the cooperation of the National Park Service, and the printing was done as a public service by Quad-Graphics, Inc. Sponsored and overseen by The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc. which was established for the Lady's (and later, the island's) restoration and re-opening to the public.
