FIRST PRINTING AUTHENTICATION (BAL 3386) This copy has been verified against the Bibliography of American Literature (BAL) requirements for the first state: Frontispiece: Captioned simply "Moses " (later changed to "Titian’s Moses"). Key Text Errors: Includes the true first-issue typos: "fee " for "feel" (p. 37, line 7 up), "2oo " for "200" (p. 46, line 11), "spirting " for "spurting" (p. 414), and "stuck " for "stick" (p. 465). DETAILED CONDITION REPORT Binding: The modern leather binding is in excellent, fine condition. The hinges are tight and the spine is secure. Title Page: Features a chip at the bottom-right corner (slightly larger than the diameter of a penny). Very light, localized foxing is present on this page and the frontispiece, as is common for this edition. Table of Contents: The Illustrations Table of Contents page and the following page each have a small chip (approx. 1/2 the size of a dime) at the margin. Internal Pages: The text block is generally clean and supple with light foxing throughout the book. There are five pages with minor 1-2mm nicks at the edges and a few pages with vintage "ear-mark" creases. Illustrations: All 328 original engravings, including those by Twain, are present and crisp.
