[DSD Mastering/Rubidium Clock Cutting] *DSD Direct Stream Digital: A recording and mastering method that uses a delta-sigma modulator to convert analog signals into high-speed 1-bit digital signals for recording. Compared to the PCM method used on conventional CDs it reproduces a simpler and more natural musical signal even capturing the ambience of the music closer to analog signals. For the previous Best Classics 100 series release in 2000 all titles were mastered using DSD mastering to improve sound quality. This time all titles have been mastered using DSD and rubidium clock cutting to achieve even higher quality sound. *Rubidium Clock Cutting: A master clock is the signal that serves as the reference for digital devices. Digital audio has evolved toward higher bit rates and higher sampling rates further increasing performance and the volume of digital data. The timing accuracy of reading and writing that data is entirely dependent on the oscillation of this master clock. Master clocks usually use quartz crystal oscillators which are also used in clocks but their accuracy is around 10-4 to 10-6. With the increasing volume of digital data in recent years there is a demand for master clocks with higher accuracy and among professionals rubidium and cerium oscillators are being used instead of quartz crystal oscillators.
