These were given to VIP's and select EG&G Co. employees who supported the Space Shuttle mission STS-51B – SPACELAB 3 mission. Plate is HEAVY (solid Bronze). CONDITION: Excellent. No scratches. EG&G AND SPACELAB 3 EG&G (Edgerton, Germeshausen, & Grier) was a key company involved with the Spacelab 3 mission (STS-51B) in 1985, specifically through its payload specialist, Dr. Lodewijk Van Den Berg, who conducted materials science experiments, notably growing high-quality Mercuric iodide crystals for X-ray detection in space, demonstrating EG&G's role in developing advanced space-based materials and detectors. The mission itself was the first operational Spacelab flight, focusing on various scientific disciplines in microgravity, with EG&G's work highlighting practical applications of space research for industrial materials.
