Photoplay Studies - (NOT a photoplay edition ) 5 by 7 inch stapled binding with a few issues being larger - paper covers - average 16-32 pages (sometimes 8-12) part of a long running series of film booklets published by Educational & Recreational Guides (Newark, NJ) circa 1935 - 1960 often used in High School classes to inspire further reading & accentuate the historical attributes of various films - all titles offer a synopsis of a filmed novel, play or biography and contain some movie stills along with questions and considerations for the instructor and student reader. Some issues are called Group Discussion Guides with similar content, perhaps the title change was a means for the publisher to expand their business with school systems. Bibliographic Information not complete but likely 150+ films represented in this series. Here are the early years in 2 hardcover bound volumes in VG condition 1935-1937 and 1938-1940. The first volume has 32 issues with two clips on issues for Soldier and the Lady & Daniel Boone, the actual issues are included to compensate. The second volume has 39 issues with the cover of Allegheny Uprising removed (actual issue included to compensate - young John Wayne).
