Description
This 1985 Netherlands stereo album from L'Oiseau-Lyre's Florilegium Series (414 174-1) features performances of several works by Henry Purcell. The tracks are taken from twelve different stage plays that Purcell composed for. They are performed by Judith Nelson (soprano), Emma Kirkby (soprano), Rogers Covey-Crump (tenor), Julian Pike (tenor), and David Thomas (bass), accompanied by The Academy of Ancient Music, a period-instrument ("on authentic instruments") orchestra conducted by Christopher Hogwood, who also plays harpsichord. The album also includes a twelve-page booklet with liner notes and lyrics in English, German, and French. The liner notes were written in English by Richard Luckett, and were then translated into French and German. The outer sleeve shows a small collection index sticker in the upper right corner of the back (Photo 2). The inner sleeve has some noticeable stains on the back (Photo 6). This is one of many titles from an extensive collection of classical LPs and CDs that we will be listing here. All have been carefully stored for many years, played only on premium equipment, and show little to no wear. NOTES: Album sleeves may have a small index sticker, usually in the upper right corner of the back, which was applied when the album was first purchased for this private collection.
