RICHMOND VIRGINIA Libby Prison from CIVIL WAR moved to 1893 Columbian Exposition. It was built before the war as a tobacco warehouse and then used for food and groceries before being converted to a prison. In 1862 it held officer prisoners from the Union Army. Kropp, Milwaukee. Postcard has not been postally used and is in undamaged, near excellent condition. The postcard shows the building as it was during the Civil War when it served as a Confederate prison. It was built before the war as a tobacco warehouse and then used for food and groceries before being converted to a prison. In 1862 it held officer prisoners from the Union Army. In 1889, the structure was moved to Chicago and renovated for use as a war museum. In 1899 the building was torn down and sold for scrap.
