The Freedom Train was a traveling exhibition of historical documents and artifacts sponsored by the U.S. government and the Advertising Council. It was intended to promote patriotism and civic engagement. The train carried over 125 original historical documents, including the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. It also carried over 100 artifacts, including photographs, posters, and clothing. The Freedom Train was a major success. It visited 48 states and over 326 cities. Over 17 million people visited the train during its two-year tour.
