The sequence spans "Do It Again" and "Reeling In The Years" through to "Peg" and "Josie," making a strong case for Walter Becker and Donald Fagen as two of the most precise and uncompromising songwriters working in rock during the 1970s. The band's studio approach — obsessive sessions, rotating cast of elite session players, jazz-inflected chord structures under pop-length songs — is well represented across all four sides. The track selection leans heavily on the earlier catalog, with nine of eighteen tracks drawn from the first three albums. "Here At The Western World," previously unreleased at the time of this compilation, appears on Side 3. This is an original US first pressing on ABC Records (AK-1107/2), released in 1978.
