Description
Original metal graduation badge for the Soviet Higher Naval Academy VVMU of scuba diving, one of a range of such badges first introduced on the 15th of November 1950. This academy existed from 1944 as the Leningrad Naval preparatory school. On April 8th 1948, the school was reorganized into the 1st Baltic higher naval school, and in May 1954 it was renamed the 1st higher naval school of diving. In 1958, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Konsomol, the school was again re named Lenin Konsomol higher naval diving school. It existed until reorganization in 1998 when in connection with the so called optimization of military education institutes, it was merged with the M. V. Frunze higher naval school, and received the name St. Petersburg Naval Institute. The badge is approximately 4.5 cm x 2.5 cm x 1.5 cm, with a good fitting screw back disc, a brass coat of arms on the front over an enameled red star on a white and nickel backing, at the base is a plaque with the higher school, (academy) name and initials.
