Item Description The Beach Boys – Surf's Up ( Reprise Records – RS 6453) Pressing features : 1st Original U.S. Press, 1971, Stereo Notes: A striking late-career renaissance, Surf’s Up (1971) finds The Beach Boys reclaiming artistic relevance in the wake of their ambitious but shelved Smile era, arriving as their 17th studio album after Sunflower (1970) and before Carl and the Passions – “So Tough” (1972). The album leans into introspective, socially aware songwriting while resurrecting the long-mythologized title track “Surf’s Up,” originally penned by Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks for Smile, giving fans a glimpse of what might have been. Ironically titled, the album distances itself from their early surf image with lush, layered arrangements and a more contemplative tone that resonated with the counterculture moment. Vinyl Record grade : VG+ A clean, glossy copy with strong visual appeal. The vinyl retains a deep, mirror-like shine, and at first glance presents beautifully. But under closer inspection and certain lighting angles, you can spot some very faint, wispy hairlines—light sleeve marks that are difficult to see unless you’re really looking for them. These marks are superficial and do not affect playback. The record has been play-tested and plays through with clear, strong audio and no skips. Any surface noise is minimal. That said, ultra-strict or highly conservative graders might be inclined to call this VG due to those faint hairlines, but by standard grading it comfortably sits in VG+ territory due to its gloss and decent playback. Cover/Jacket grade : VG+ (but close to a VG grade), showing signs of handling and age. Ring wear is present (see photos). Colors remain vibrant and sharp, with slightly worn edges and strong seams—no splits, no writing. There’s just a touch of mild shelf rub and a faint corner ding, but overall it presents beautifully. Other contents : includes original insert Record will be packed in a plastic outer sleeve with the record placed outside of the album jacket to prevent seam splits and securely sent in a reinforced media mailer with fragile stickers displayed on outside.
