Sweeney is a former member of the editorial staff of the Brooklyn Tablet and has been Chaplain of the Convent of Mercy in Brooklyn for the past twenty-eight years. Born in Brooklyn, he was graduated from St. John's University there, studied for the priesthood in St. John's Seminary, was ordained in 1908, and later served as Assistant in the borough's St. Joseph's Church, and taught Apologetics and English at Mercy Secretarial Junior College. A Retreat Master in the Diocese of Brooklyn, the author also is a member of the Board of Directors of the Catholic Guardian Society and is affiliated with the Mercy Juniorate High School and St. Angela Hall Academy. In 1954 he was elevated to the rank of a Domestic Prelate by the late Pope Pius XII. He is the author of two previously published books, Those Distant Years, a work on Sacred Scripture, and Golden Glow, a collection of stories Bryan Joseph McEntegart was an American Roman Catholic bishop who served as the fourth Bishop of Brooklyn from 1957 to 1968, and was given the personal title of Archbishop by Pope Paul VI in 1966. His tenure in Brooklyn involved a significant building program and outreach to the growing Hispanic community, as well as the implementation of the reforms of the Second Vatican Council.
