U.S.S. Leviathin, the Spanish Flu Ship of Death, Oct. during WWI, 1918. This photo was taken less than a month after the first deaths of over 200 soldiers occurred in an earlier October transport. This rare postcard features the U.S.S. Leviathan, a ship nicknamed the Ship of Death, for its role during the Spanish Flu pandemic. This real photo postcard captures a historical moment during World War 1, while in the mid-Atlantic on Oct. 29. 1918. The ship had previously carried Franklin D. Roosevelt from Hoboken, NY to Brest, France. Each trip transported 2,000 crewmen, 10,000 army personnel, and 200 nurses.
