Ode to Leisurely Living I stroll through the long garden of the ancient sages, I walk the high path of their ancestral temples. Though my face is thick with pride, I am still ashamed before Ning Qu. When the Way prevails, I will not serve; when the Way does not prevail, I will not be foolish. Why do I lack cleverness and wisdom, yet possess so much clumsiness and hardship? Therefore, I retire to a secluded life on the banks of the Luo River. My body is that of a recluse, my name that of a common scholar. I accompany the emperor to the capital, traversing the Yi River, facing the suburbs and the market. The floating bridge is dark and winding, the Lingtai Terrace stands tall and majestic. I peer into the secrets of astronomy, and investigate the beginning and end of human affairs. To the west are the Imperial Guards, with their black tents and green banners, the streams and millet fields, their different colors all returning together, cannons and thunderous arrows flying, leading the way, displaying the imperial might. To the east are the Bright Hall and the Imperial Palace, serene and spacious, surrounded by forests, with a round sea and a flowing spring, where I commemorate my father with filial piety. I honor my late father to match Heaven, I show reverence to the sages to clarify obedience, and I care for the elderly to prolong their lives. In early summer of year of Horse, imitating a part of Ode to Leisurely Living, written by Anita Wang Written style: freehand style (行書) Materials: gold ink on grid black rice paper Size of rice paper: 14” x 50” Year of writing: 2026 Others: 1.
