Description

Up for auction is a vintage Degenhart glass owl in the RARE color "Dirty Joe" (made on 6-30-1975). This is a very rare and hard to find color. It features an off white or cream opalescent base with an overwash of translucent pink. It's a very unique color that looks lovely in a sunny window. It glows green under a 365nm blacklight due to Manganese in the glass. It's in excellent condition with no flaws of any kind. It looks stunning in the sunlight. It stands 3.5 inches tall and has the Degenhart "D" embossed on the bottom of the figurine. Degenhart Glass made this owl from 1967 to 1978. The owl was permanently retired in 1978 and never made again. All pictures were taken in natural lighting near a window. I'm a highly experienced glass shipper, so you can rest assured that your item will be very carefully wrapped and will arrive safely. Please read below for info on the blacklight/UV light I use and recommendations on the best way to view your owl under a blacklight. 1. What blacklight do you use? The blacklight I use is the Lumenshooter S3 that I purchased through Amazon. This has a 365nm wavelength which is the best for viewing the fluorescing properties of Cadmium, Manganese and Selenium. Uranium glows even brighter than normal with this blacklight. 2. Are 365nm and 395nm blacklights the same? The are not! :) A 395nm blacklight emits a violet light and creates a less intense glow. It is best suited for Uranium glass only. I highly recommend purchasing a blacklight with a 365nm wavelength, as they have the advantage of not emitting violet light, which can be a distraction and create a less intense glow. Most objects containing Cadmium, Manganese, Selenium and Uranium will fluoresce strongest under a 365nm black light. 3. What is the best way to view my Degenhart Owl under a blacklight? I recommend using a completely dark room or closet with no additional lighting that could be a distraction. This will give you the brightest glow possible. All UV pictures in my listings are taken in a completely dark closet with only my blacklight and my phone on the night setting. Thank you for looking and please let me know if you have any questions. :)
