Despite only being around for a few short years, Bitch Skateboards made a lasting impact on the skateboarding community and remained a hated part of skateboarding history. Bitch Skateboards was started by Sal Rocco in the mid-1990s. Rocco had previously been a part of the Plan B skateboarding team, which had gained a significant following due to its talented riders and innovative artwork. However, pro skaters Rick Howard and Mike Carrol from Plan B left to start their brand, Girl Skateboards. This move left Rocco feeling bitter and left out, so he decided to start his brand as a way of poking fun at his former teammates. Bitch Skateboards intended to be a tongue-in-cheek response to Girl Skateboards. The brand's logo featured a guy pointing a gun at a gal with the words "Bitch Skateboards" in bold lettering. The graphics on the decks were intentionally provocative and controversial, with images of scantily-clad women, drug use, and other taboo subjects. While some found the designs offensive, many skateboarders appreciated the irreverent and rebellious spirit of Bitch Skateboards. Unfortunately, the Bitch Skate company was short-lived. The brand only lasted a few years before Rocco decided to shut it down and move on to other pursuits. However, the impact of Bitch Skateboards is still felt today, as the brand has become a part of skateboarding history. Some core skateboarders continue to collect Bitch Skateboards decks and other merchandise as a way of remembering this iconic brand.
